Nashville fog lifts; 30s by Sunday

Middle Tennessee woke up socked in Thursday after four soggy days, and drivers got a short but serious fog advisory before a dry, mild afternoon and a much colder weekend.
The National Weather Service in Nashville kept a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 8 a.m. CST for a large slice of the Midstate, including Wilson, Williamson and Rutherford counties and nearby communities from Mount Juliet and Lebanon to Murfreesboro, Smyrna and Franklin. Visibility locally fell below a half-mile, the weather service said, and drivers were told to slow down, use headlights and leave extra space.
Local forecasts said the fog grew after Wednesday's heavy rain under light winds, then should burn off by mid to late morning. Highs today are expected near 70 to the low 70s under a mix of sun and clouds, with overnight lows near 50.
Record rain on Wednesday
Nashville International Airport measured 2.35 inches of rain on Wednesday, Nov. 4, according to local meteorologists citing National Weather Service climate data. That smashed the old daily record of 1.11 inches set in 1880.
The airport's four-day total from Nov. 1 through Nov. 4 reached 3.61 inches, tying the wettest start to November on record, a mark last set in 1945. The rain followed Nashville's third-driest September-October stretch on record, when only three days had measurable rain.
Cold snap this weekend
A dry cold front arrives Friday. Afternoon highs drop into the 60s Friday, then the upper 50s to low 60s Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows fall into the upper 30s Friday night, with frost possible on the Cumberland Plateau, and into the 30s across much of the Midstate by Sunday morning, according to WSMV and NewsChannel 5 forecasts.
Aside from a slight chance of a sprinkle Friday or Monday, the next several days look dry. For weekend plans, see our Things to do in Nashville this weekend roundup, plus more Nashville weather news and Davidson County news.
