Nashville SC tied the Major League Soccer record for points in a single season Sunday, coming back from two goals down to beat the New York Red Bulls 3-2 at GEODIS Park.

The win gave the Supporters' Shield winners 74 points, matching the mark Inter Miami set in 2024. Nashville is 22-3-8 through 33 matches, the best 33-match start in league history, according to the club.

How the comeback happened

Goalkeeper Brian Schwake saved a penalty kick in the 19th minute, his league-leading third penalty save of the regular season, the club said.

New York still took control. Julian Hall scored in the 34th minute and Rafael Mosquera added a goal in the 40th, putting Nashville in danger of its first home loss of the year.

A Red Bulls own goal in the 45th minute cut the lead to 2-1 at halftime. A second own goal in the 78th minute tied it. Sam Surridge then scored the winner in the 91st minute, on an assist from Cristian Espinoza.

The assist was Espinoza's 15th of the season, a career high, and made him the 13th player in MLS history with 100 career assists, counting regular season and playoffs, according to the club.

"All year we talk about just being able to respond," coach B.J. Callaghan told reporters, according to MLSsoccer.com. "You gotta give all the guys credit. They just left everything out there."

Perfect at home

Sunday was Nashville's regular-season home finale, and the team finished unbeaten at GEODIS Park with 15 wins and two draws. The 15 home wins are an MLS single-season record, passing the Red Bulls' 14 in 2018. Nashville outscored home opponents 48-14.

It is the second time the club has gone unbeaten at home in a regular season, after 2021.

After the match, the team lifted the Supporters' Shield in front of fans. Nashville clinched the trophy, given to the MLS team with the best regular-season record, with a 2-0 win at CF Montreal on Oct. 24. It is the club's first Supporters' Shield and its second major trophy, after the 2025 U.S. Open Cup.

Majority owner John Ingram told the players the season is not done. "Let's go get the Cup!" he said, according to MLSsoccer.com.

What's next

Nashville closes the regular season on MLS Decision Day at FC Cincinnati on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m. CT. The match streams on Apple TV. A draw would give Nashville 75 points and a new league record. A win would make it 77.

"We want to be the standard of this league," captain Hany Mukhtar said. "This group has shown that we can win away, and that is our mentality in Cincinnati."

As the No. 1 overall seed, Nashville has home-field advantage throughout the MLS Cup Playoffs and in MLS Cup on Dec. 18, should it reach the final. Its first-round opponent will be the Eastern Conference wild-card winner. First-round best-of-three series run from Nov. 20 to Dec. 2, according to MLS.

The Shield also earned Nashville a spot in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.
