The Nashville Predators leave Bridgestone Arena behind for one night and take their annual Fathers' Trip to Denver, where they face the Colorado Avalanche at 8:30 p.m. CT Thursday at Ball Arena.
Nashville is 6-4-5 with 17 points after taking points in four of five games on its just-finished homestand. Colorado sits two points ahead at 9-6-1. The Predators won the season's first meeting 6-2 in Nashville on Oct. 25 and still have three games left against the Avalanche this year.
Looking for a third straight win
Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes gave Nashville back-to-back victories. Nick Perbix, Roman Josi, Adam Edstrom and Ross Colton scored, and Juuse Saros stopped 29 shots. Filip Forsberg added two assists and has multi-point games in five straight contests.
Shane Wright, acquired from Seattle on Sunday, made his Predators debut in that game and centered Forsberg and Nils Hoglander with a plus-2 rating. Forsberg leads the club with 19 points (5 goals, 14 assists). Josi has 17 points, Steven Stamkos has eight goals and 16 points, and Ryan O'Reilly has seven goals and 15 points.
Nashville's special teams remain among the NHL's best: the power play is tied for fourth at 30.6 percent, and the penalty kill ranks third at 89.4 percent. The Predators are the only team with both units ranked in the top five.
Dads' Trip and injury notes
Captain Roman Josi said Wednesday the fathers give the group "a little extra motivation" in one of the league's toughest buildings. Jonathan Marchessault, who missed Tuesday's game, is day-to-day with a lower-body injury after sitting out practice Wednesday.
Colorado arrives off a 7-2 loss at Columbus on Tuesday that ended a three-game winning streak. Nathan MacKinnon ranks among the NHL leaders with 27 points, Cale Makar has 18 points among defensemen, and Artturi Lehkonen has 12 goals.
